Towards the end of 2004, Professor Margaret Alston attended the International Social Work Conference in Adelaide.
Impressed with the calibre of the Australian papers presented, she suggested that a selection of the papers form the core of a special issue of the journal. The pertinence and timeliness of the topic persuaded us to adopt this concept for this special issue, and to invite Margaret to join us as guest editor.
We are delighted that Margaret accepted our invitation. It has been a great pleasure to work with her on the development of this special issue over the past year and more.
We thank Professor Mel Gray of Newcastle University for editing Margaret's own paper.
